I had a lot of problems with Root during the campaign but this is a good speech from him. The point about campaigning in safe states is very true.

I thought the swing-state strategy was stupid. You get less bang for your buck. Barr should’ve been stomping ground in Georgia, Montana, California, Idaho, etc.

After that presentation, I found myself liking Root more than I had before, which was at a near zero level. I also feel that I now understand him and his motivations a bit better as well.

Root now has three years to do the right thing every day. If he does that, I’ll be happy to have him in our party. He started off on a real bad foot, jumping into the run for the presidential nomination with very little basic understanding of libertarianism (his website initially said he supported gun control, even!) but it’s possible that he’s just slowly getting educated. It was still silly for him to run for our nomination in 2008, but eh…
He is a likeable guy and a great speaker, and I’ll be happy if he becomes a productive member of the LP community over the next three years.

Wayne knocked it out with that speech.
What I love , love , loved about it was he made sure that he distanced himself from Barr and got the message across w/o being an asshole .

Wayne appears to be getting better. I didn’t support him for either the Presidential or Vice Presidential nomination this year but I’ll see what he does over the next four years and re-evaluate him for 2012.
