Dick Boddie on spoiling Obama’s party

December 28th, 2008 · 21 Comments

Posted by Kevin Craig (excerpt):

Richard B. Boddie (center) has come up with a delightful idea:

You know what would REALLY perturb ( or p___ off) a whole lot of people, especially so-called Democrats?! How about this?

Bumbling George W. Bush, the puppet, could resign immediately — before the new year, even. Then the shadowy Dick Cheney becomes the President. Now wouldn’t THAT really perturb (or p___ off) those cocky liberals?!

Then Dirty Dick immediately appoints Condoleeza Rice as Vice President. Cheney then resigns weeks later, prior to the imminent overdone Obama coronation and (get this) CONDOLEEZA RICE then becomes THE FIRST BLACK PRESIDENT of the United States of America, and even more significant she is then also the first WOMAN President no less.

Kevin Craig has been a Libertarian candidate for Congress. Dick Boddie has been a past Libertarian candidate several times; his bio includes highlights such as

Highest vote getter ever in Libertarian Party History for U.S. Senate: 250,000 in California’s 1992 election. (This bio page is old, so I don’t know whether this is still the record). UPDATE: Richard Winger in comments – “Michael Cloud got 369,807 votes for US Senate in Massachusetts in 2002. And Carla Howell got 308,860 votes for US Senate in Massachusetts in 2000 even though she had opponents from both major parties.”

Runner up for Libertarian Party Presidential Nomination in Chicago 8/31/91 for 1992 race.

Beat the margin of victory between the Republican and Democratic candidates for U.S. Senate in California 1994.

Chairman of Orange County Libertarian Party (Region 40 of the California Libertarian Party).

Executive Director, Focus PAC

Executive Director and Founder, Socially Tolerant Caucus of the Libertarian Party.

President and Founder, The Motivators motivational speakers bureau.

and

“As both a former Democrat and former Republican, Richard B. Boddie** is quite well known for his political activism over the years, having been the president of the Student Bar Association while in law school, an anti war activist, and community organizer in the 60s; Congressional aide, and executive with the American Arbitration Association in the 70s; a motivational speaker and political activist; a fund raiser and road manager for the 1984 Libertarian Party Presidential candidate, and he himself also sought that same position in 1991 for the 1992 Presidential race. Richard did run for the U.S. Senate in 1992 and 1994 in California, and for Congress in the 46th District of CA in 2000, and served as Chair the Orange County Libertarian Party 1996 – 1998, and was also the Press Secretary for the Steve Kubby for Governor campaign in California in 1998.”

Michael Cloud got 369,807 votes for US Senate in Massachusetts in 2002. And Carla Howell got 308,860 votes for US Senate in Massachusetts in 2000 even though she had opponents from both major parties.

Also Dick Cheney couldn’t appoint anyone v-p without US Senate confirmation of his proposed choice.

    Thanks! I’ll incorporate that.

Yes, I think the Condi Rice bit would not happen. And Cheney is such an evil thug that we’re probably marginally better off with Bush in the seat. Though it is hard to be sure.

It would probably take the USA Senate until the 25th of January to evaluate Condi for VP. So, that seems like a non-starter.

This business of Senate approval for the VP replacement is in the constitution. Whoever wrote the initial proposal (Boddie?) should have been aware of that requirement.

One of the reasons that constitutions are powerless to prevent tyranny is that nobody reads them. Even people who claim to support them don’t seem to bother.

Com’ON Jim it was a little tongue in cheek. I’ve never known Boddie to claim Bednarik creds in constitutional law.

On another point. it should be refreshing to some to realize there are actually non WHITE MALE Libertarians…

What would P^@@ ‘em off more than anything is for 15-20,000 sign waving anti-war protesters be located throughout the D.C. crowd Jan.20 where the MSM cameras CAN’T MISS them…

    @ 6

Now that is an idea which should be implemented.

  • 8 paulie cannoli // Dec 29, 2008 at 11:25 am

Yes, but I don’t think it would upset the paradigm in any way; after all the media and those at home watching are used to seeing antiwar protesters, and they think Obama will end the war (as if). Also, protesters are put in Free Speech Zones and mostly ignored at these types of events. And the crowd is controlled so they don’t sneak things like protest signs in, too.

    Jerry,

Good videos. I think I’ll make it a post a little later.

@10 Consumption taxes are not more ethical than income taxes. I’m definitely against income taxes. But consumption for people who are barely surviving is not really optional. And I don’t believe the claims that necessities like food would not be taxed. Food is taxed in most states in this country.

  • 15 paulie cannoli // Dec 29, 2008 at 12:03 pm

I agree. Consumption taxes are a disincentive to business formation and a potential way to track purchases, among other things.

Err, doesn’t the Speaker of the House become President before Secretary of State?

That means Nancy Pelosi takes the White House if a theoretical-President Cheney resigned.

Secretary of State is actually fifth in line I believe. I cannot remember the fourth in line.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_presidential_line_of_succession

1 Vice President and President of the Senate Dick Cheney
2 Speaker of the House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi
3 President pro tempore of the Senate Robert Byrd
4 Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice
5 Secretary of the Treasury Henry Paulson
6 Secretary of Defense Robert Gates[1]
    7 Attorney General Michael Mukasey
8 Secretary of the Interior Dirk Kempthorne
9 Secretary of Agriculture Ed Schafer
10 Secretary of Commerce Carlos Gutierrez (not eligible)â€
11 Secretary of Labor Elaine Chao (not eligible)â€
12 Secretary of Health and Human Services Mike Leavitt
13 Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Steve Preston
14 Secretary of Transportation Mary Peters

  • 18 JimDavidson // Dec 29, 2008 at 10:22 pm

So, to effect the spoiling that Dick Boddie suggests, Bush could kill Cheney, Pelosi, and Byrd, then resign. Condi should get to take office. I don’t propose this set of actions, I simply contemplate it as an amusing theoretical.

Mind you, if we learn that Bush has invited Cheney, Pelosi, and Byrd to go quail hunting with him….lol, we might be able to guess what’s coming.

  • 19 JimDavidson // Dec 29, 2008 at 10:22 pm

Can you imagine what would have to happen for poor Mary Peters to take the office of president? Wow.

  • 20 paulie cannoli // Dec 29, 2008 at 10:28 pm

Order of succession is if they are killed/incapacitated simultaneously, otherwise is it’s the appointment thing, which would take too long at this point, as per above.

  • 21 JimDavidson // Dec 29, 2008 at 10:39 pm

So, you are thinking that Bush has to go with Cheney, Pelosi, and Byrd, and blow up the four of them, somewhere remote from Condi for this to work? Okay.

I’m not sure he’ll go for it, but if you send in a letter asking him to “do the right thing” I’m sure everyone who reads this site would be behind you “all the way.” -grin-
