From the BTP website:
New news at the top 2 December 2008 Boston Tea Party chair Jason Gatties resigned in late November owing to family medical issues. The party is currently accepting nominations for chair in a special election to be conducted shortly. Currently two candidates, George Donnelly and Matty Grossman, have been moved, seconded, and have accepted their nominations. A third candidate, Angela Keaton, has been moved and seconded but has not indicated her acceptance. So far, 712 people have joined our party on this site. We also have 848 members for our largest group on Facebook. We are currently seeking members in Maine to help organise a new affiliate there.

Why doesn’t the vice chair become chair?

The Vice Chair is currently the interim chair.

The BTP bylaws state that a special election must be held.
Someone nominated the vice-chair but there was no second and no expression of interest until just this morning (2.5 of 3 days after nominations opened).
Now that he has been nominated and accepted, I’m inclined to withdraw. If I were to win that could be rather awkward, and being such a small party, I don’t think it can afford any acrimony.

I personally think you are too valuable to the LP to shift over to the BTP. I would like to see you on the LNC if you are up for it, and it seems dual membership is a no-no with that crowd.

Why would that be awkward?

You’re much too kind but yes I agree that if I take a leadership post with the BTP, I won’t be able to do so with the LP. It would be a conflict of interest.
When I run for office, hopefully in ’10 and no later than ’12, I will probably run as a republican anyway, so this may be academic.

Doug, because elections can cause acrimony, and we can’t afford any more that in the BTP, much less in the leadership.

I had thought about running for chair, but I admit that I probably couldn’t win.

I can’t wait when that party dies.
