Nader wants third party candidates invited to inaugural

November 15th, 2008 · 5 Comments

Washingtonpost.com reports, “You’ll never guess who really, really wants to go to the inauguration: Ralph Nader. The sometimes cantankerous outsider has sent an open letter to Barack Obama asking that third-party candidates — the Libertarian Party’s Bob Barr, the Constitution Party’s Chuck Baldwin and the Green Party’s Cynthia McKinney — be included among the Democrats, Republicans, business execs and others at the January ceremonies. ‘I have not spoken to any of them about this recommendation,’ Nader writes. ‘To avoid any semblance of self-interest, I will delete my name from this list and watch the event on C-SPAN.’”

I wonder if they could get a permit to counterdemonstrate? Probably not. If not, I wonder if any of them have the guts to show up anyway and get arrested, like Badnarik and Cobb did?

Obama should invite Nader as it would show an effort to hear the issues that Nader and his supporters want. Is Nader in an Obama cabinet that unlikely?

During the primaries, Obama was asked about Nader. He (Obama) said “Nader seemed someone who is pretty pleased with himself” or something like that.

Nader would never get a place in the cabinet. Obama has not seemed friendly to alternative candidates, especially those who insult him.
