This Georgia libertarian is hoping that Buckley either endorses Martin or refuses to make an endorsement. I am tired of being accused of being a "Republican lite". I would much more like to be recognized for helping to destroy the political careers of demonstrated warmongers and fascists. I will be putting up Martin signs all over town (though not in my front yard!)

Ewwww,Sean Parnell sucks. I hope she appoints Dave Cuddy,Stevens' primary opponent.

But, it's likely it'll be Sean Parnell.

We passed a ballot measure to make sure that a special election rather than appointment for the new senator is made because of former Gov. Murkowski appointing his own daughter to fill his seat in the senate.

No, Palin can only make an appointment that lasts I believe 45 days until a special election is called to elect a new senator.

OK, in that case some of the votes for Stevens make more sense.

I don't follow your logic about Stevens, if he isn't seated doesn't Palin get to appoint his replacement?

Also, see what happens with the Minnesota recount and seating Stevens. If the Democrats can manage to get their hands on those two seats, this will be the race for #60 (unless Lieberman switches his caucus, which would diminish his committee standings).

If this becomes the race for #60, it will be ground zero, and Obama may well not just drop whatever campaign funds he may have left over, but beat the drums nationwide to raise more and even get down there for a couple of weeks himself to turn out the vote.

If Coleman looks likely to prevail and/or Stevens strikes a deal to be seated, this kind of effort by the Democrats becomes less likely.

The first election saw a far higher than normal turn-out from Democrats and African Americans excited about Barack Obama. Many of those voters won’t come back out again for a Senate run-off election.

It depends on how aggressive the DNC is in pumping funds into advertising and get out the vote. If the Obama campaign ended up with any significant chunk of the money they raised still in hand, and wants to drop it there, there's no way for Republicans to match that.

The reality of this race is that Saxby Chambliss will probably win with a comfortable margin.

The first election saw a far higher than normal turn-out from Democrats and African Americans excited about Barack Obama. Many of those voters won't come back out again for a Senate run-off election.

Buckley's best bet from a tactical standpoint would be to get Chambliss to sign some sort of pledge and then endorse him. Also highlight the idea of having a divided government... keeping the Democrats from getting 60 votes prevents them from having all the keys to the cash register.

When he Chambliss wins... turn around and claim it was because of Buckley's endorsement.
