Independent Krikorian defends his Armenian roots, issues harsh criticism of opponent

November 2nd, 2008 · 27 Comments

Independent candidate for Congress David Krikorian, in Ohio’s second district, today called for the withdrawal of his Republican opponent from the race. He did it because of her “denial of the Armenian Genocide.”

The Krikorian campaign is currently circulating this flier:

The press release is posted below:

David Krikorian’s Letter Regarding the Armenian Genocide

Letter – November 2, 2008.
Written by David Krikorian.

David KrikorianTo My Supporters and the People of the Second Congressional District,

I ask the people of Ohio’s second congressional district to ask themselves if our Representative should be taking money from a foreign government that is killing our soldiers?

The linked flyer is being widely distributed across the second district in the last days of this campaign season to expose Jean Schmidt as a betrayer of American history and her Christian faith. With her actions, Jean Schmidt has proven that she is unfit for service at any level in the U.S. Government, let alone the U.S. House of Representatives. I demand her immediate withdrawal from this race and her apology to the people of the United States of America for the crime she has committed against our American soldiers and humanity by denying the undisputed facts of the Armenian Genocide. Jean Schmidt is a selfish person and should seek the help of professional counseling.

American forces battling Al-Qaida in Afghanistan are encountering rising numbers of Turkish militants. The Associated Press reported that “The story of Turkish involvement in transnational jihadism is one of the best kept stories of the war on terror. …The local Afghans whom I talked to claim that the Turks and other foreigners are more prone to suicidal assaults than the local Taliban.” Another report cites the fact that Turk suicide bomber Cüneyt Çiftçi was lauded by Turkish militant Islamic web sites as a hero for killing 70 U.S. soldiers in Afghanistan in March.

My campaign for U.S. Representative has been entirely focused on our country’s economic security. Of the three candidates in this race, there can be no question as to who is best qualified to lead our district during this great economic and financial crisis. I want to take this opportunity, however, to set the record straight on something I have not spoken publicly about and that is Jean Schmidt’s denial of the Armenian Genocide and why I supported my Democratic opponent in 2006.

Republican controlled media outlets in southwest Ohio have correctly reported that I contributed to two Democrats that sought their party’s nomination in 2006 to oppose Jean Schmidt in the general election. While that is indeed true, it is important to understand that my motivation for doing so was entirely the result of Jean Schmidt’s insane denial of the Christian Armenian Genocide at the hands of the Muslim Ottoman Empire. Jean Schmidt has taken $30,000 in blood money from Turkish government sponsored political action committees to deny the slaughter of 1.5 million Armenian men, women and children by the Ottoman Turkish Government during World War I.

Both sets of my grandparents are survivors of this first Holocaust of the 20th century and came to America in the early 1920′s. Most of their family members at the time were murdered.

The facts of the Armenian genocide are universally accepted by nations around the world, prominent scholars and statesmen and 40 U.S. states including Ohio. The only deniers of this great tragedy which led to the Holocaust of the Jews by Nazi Germany are the Turkish Government and certain members of the United States Congress including Jean Schmidt. If your family and race were murdered and brought to the brink of extermination, you would have done the exact same thing, you would have supported anyone running against Jean Schmidt.

Here are some facts:

The Armenian Genocide is officially recognized by 20 nations including Argentina, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Chile, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Lebanon, Netherlands, Poland, Russia, Switzerland and the Vatican City among others. In fact it is a CRIME to deny the Armenian Genocide in France and Switzerland punishable by incarceration.

Jean Schmidt has taken $30,000 in blood money from Turkish government sponsored political action committees and Turkish people in 2008 in exchange for helping them to cover-up the mass murder of 1.5 million Christians. This information is public record and can be found on the Federal Elections Commission database at http://www.FEC.gov.

Jean Schmidt says that: “at this time she does not have enough information to characterize these deaths as genocide especially since those responsible are long since dead” Jean Schmidt’s office March 29, 2007.

Many notable scholars and statesman have officially recognized the Armenian Genocide including:

  • President Ronald Reagan
  • Pope John Paul II
  • Holocaust survivor and Nobel Lauriat Elie Wiesel
  • U.S. Ambassador to the Ottoman Empire Henry Morgenthau
  • Sir Winston Churchill
  • Governor Ted Strickland
  • Representative Steve Chabot

Jean Schmidt says: “The question comes to the definition of genocide and I don’t think we are comfortable making that attribution at this time” Jean Schmidt’s office, March 30, 2007.

Jean Schmidt is a self-serving politician and an embarrassment to her district and to the United States of America. The people of Ohio’s second district will , if they elect her on November 4th, condone her denial of the Genocide of 1.5 million Christians. And, in so doing, be guilty of a crime against humanity as the cover-up is just as bad as the crime. It is not enough to vote party like mindless sheep. Vote conscience and ideal and stand up for the values you claim to hold. If you don’t, you are merely a barking dog and God is indeed watching.

Jean Schmidt MUST GO and WE the people must do it. Because you are Americans and because you are human beings and because you are Christians.

The Catholic Trotskyist Party of America endorses Democrat Wulson, and Krikorian must remember that Schmidt can’t withdraw from the race this late, especially with early voting happening. But Krikorian is heroic for standing up to genocide deniers.

  • 2 Ross Levin // Nov 2, 2008 at 6:29 pm

She can refuse to go into office if elected.

  • 3 Monte M // Nov 2, 2008 at 6:59 pm

Ohio’s 2nd district must get this shameless person out of office.

…I almost can’t believe she was elected in the first place! Not only has helped did the USA in a ditch by blindly following Bush/Cheney; not only does she not have a clue about the economy; but now I find out she has taken $30,000 from the Turkish government to deny the Christian holocaust!!!

    Jean Schmidt = Lowlife

It’s really too bad, Jean Schmidt defeated Tom Brinkman in the Republican primary of this race. Tom Brinkman, for those who dont know, is called “The Dr. No of Ohio” and has been compared, quite favorable, to Ron Paul.

  • 5 Catholic Trotskyist // Nov 2, 2008 at 10:15 pm

Exactly Monty, that is why you must vote for Wulson, because Krikorian as an independent can’t win

  • 6 Jeremy Young // Nov 2, 2008 at 10:43 pm

For someone doing as well as Krikorian is, this ia a disappointing and kind of wacky way to end a campaign. Sure Schmidt’s vote was stupid, but is this really the most important issue facing voters in the district — whether a century-old ethnic cleansing campaign did or did not meet the technical definition of genocide?

  • 7 Ross Levin // Nov 2, 2008 at 10:58 pm

I kind of thought the same thing.

I guess he’s trying to make her look bad enough that people switch their votes.

  • 8 Trent Hill // Nov 2, 2008 at 11:13 pm

He’s Armenian and there is a decent sized Armenian population in the District.

  • 9 Jeremy Young // Nov 2, 2008 at 11:23 pm

Trent, yes, but aren’t they already voting for him? I mean, his name is Krikorian and all…

  • 10 Trent Hill // Nov 2, 2008 at 11:37 pm

I’d suspect this is to galvanize them, Get Out The Vote and all that.

  • 11 Jeremy Young // Nov 3, 2008 at 1:35 am

    Ah, fair enough.

This is the most ridiculously racist political ad I’ve ever seen. Judging by the number of times “Christian” and “Muslim” is written, all Krikorian is trying to do is manipulate, exploit and aggravate the feelings between Christian and Muslim Americans, banking on the fact that most Americans are Christian. Of course, in his diatribe you won’t read about the 2.5 million Muslims killed during the same period, 500,000 of which by Armenians, because Krikorians goal is not noble or objective in anyway: it is merely geared to demonizing his opponent and pushing his own ethnicity’s agenda.

Furthermore, as we know there has even been an Anglo-Saxon American who joined Al Qaida. Just as we know America oppposes terrorism, how does a handful of Turkish citizens joining Al-Qaida suddenly make the entire Turkish race and nation, i.e. the Turkish government somehow a sponsor the way Krikorian falsely accusses? The fact is that Turkey is America’s strongest ally in the region against Al Qaida and terrorism in general.

Finally, it is illegal for any foreign entity to donate to an American campaign. Schmidt’s contributors were all American citizens of Turkish decent, no different from Krikorian himself. Americans of Armenian decent donate hundreds-fold more, millions of dollars, to candidates across America, mostly so they can regurgitate their genocide allegations. The right to donate to candidates is the right of all American citizens, when Armenian-Americans do this it is ok, but when Turkish-Americans do this somehow it is wrong?

Before aspiring to Congress I suggest Krikorian check his racism and learn the basic tenets of citizenship.

“He’s Armenian and there is a decent sized Armenian population in the District.”

There is? I’ve lived in this district for 6 years and I’ve never heard that.
BTW, I will be voting for Krikorian tomorrow. Schmidt lost my vote when she voted for that trillion dollar abomination of a bailout.

I agree. I voted for him in the primary but incumbents are difficult to unseat.

  • 15 MattSwartz // Nov 3, 2008 at 5:05 pm

Well, that’s new. I think IPR has gotten a visit from it’s very first genocide denier. We should all chip in and get him something nice.

  • 16 Trent Hill // Nov 3, 2008 at 5:07 pm

    Maybe a history book?

  • 17 MattSwartz // Nov 3, 2008 at 5:11 pm

How about some of that extra-strength hand soap that Lady Macbeth was trying to get ahold of?

  • 18 sunshinebatman // Nov 3, 2008 at 5:24 pm

this good. third-party candidates need to move beyond ideological squabbles and start hitting incumbents with specific examples of their corruption.

  • 19 sunshinebatman // Nov 3, 2008 at 5:25 pm

Also, this guy hwould get in touch with Sibel Edmonds or one one her assoicates like BradBlog. She has the goods on all kinds of dirty Turk money.

  • 20 Ross Levin // Nov 3, 2008 at 6:38 pm

Matt – there a lot of anti-Semites around here, I’ve found. That is, people who take their criticism of the Israeli government way too far. I wouldn’t be surprised if there were a few Holocaust deniers lurking in the shadows.

Don’t know much about the Armenian genocide, though.

  • 21 Trent Hill // Nov 3, 2008 at 7:59 pm

    Ross,

Taking criticism of the Israeli government “way too far” makes someone anti-semitic? Im not anti-Israeli, but I find this statement chronically stupid.

It’s like saying that if you criticize the Chinese government too stringently, you are anti-sino.

  • 22 Ross Levin // Nov 3, 2008 at 8:03 pm

Yes, it does. If you support the actions of terrorists because of the injustices against the Palestinian people, you are taking it too far and in many cases it is anti-Semitic. And there are plenty of people who are just outright anti-Semitic about it, regardless of how they feel about the Arab-Israeli conflict.

David Krikorian is lying and playing not the race card, but rather the religion card. He should be ashamed of himself for being such a divider. This is how the Nazi party came to power and killed 6 million people. There was no genocide committed against Armenian but if Krikorian can have his way, he would commit a genocide against people simply because they are Muslim. Shame on you!

Are you running for office in Armenia or American
? You claim to be an American, then I ask, why are you acting against American interest in support of Armenia. Here are the facts:

The Armenians Committed treachery against the Ottoman Turks starting from the 1890s until 1923, necessitating their relocation. This was not the first time Armenians committed treachery against a nation. The Roman emperor Tiberius had to relocate Armenians from the same area and sent them to Cyprus and to Sicily in the year 578 AD. Another Roman King Justinian had done a similar thing and relocated Armenians who were in rebellion, to the Balkans in 690 AD.
Lets analyze why the Armenians were moved and what their history shows. Are they really victims? Are they really humanitarians? Are they really deserving of any pity? They associate themselves with Jewish victims of WWII. Is this a worthy comparison? Do the Armenians have any connection to the Jewish victims of WWII?
The answer, yes there is a connection, but its not what the Armenians want you to think. Here is the connection……
More than 100,000 Armenians voluntarily joined and fought for the Nazis during World War II. Many of these Armenian/Nazis helped Hitler capture Jews and then assisted the SS troops of the German Wehrmacht in getting them to be transported to the extermination camps in Germany and in Poland. There exist records of these individual military units where these Armenians served. An American author obtained copies of them. This American writer has each individual Armenian’s name, the record of each Nazi army medal or military honor that was given to each of your fellow Armenians who served Hitler so well. Armenians’ are proud of their many military achievements for their Nazi partners in crime.
The Armenians petitioned Hitler in 1942 to name Armenians as “racially pure Aryan” people just like the Nazis. Their petition was accepted and the “Aryan” race status was granted to them only after rich Armenians from all around the world agreed to deposit huge contributions to German banks. ( Wehrmacht records : Aryan status was accepted on December 14, 1942.)
These Armenians produced a radio broadcast from Berlin beginning in 1935 that was on the air until the Nazis lost the war in 1945. The program was called “Armenia.” The Armenians broadcast support of Hitler and his policy of extermination of all the Jews in Europe and this policy was supported clandestinely throughout Soviet Armenia. Large number of Armenian newspapers in Diaspora and in total secrecy, published articles and editorials supporting Hitler and his hate campaign to exterminate the Jews.
American Armenians are on the wrong tract. The American Armenians raised almost a quarter of a million dollars in just two days in order to dig up the Armenian Nazi General (Drastamat Kanayan —commander of the infamous 819th Armenian/Nazi battalion of World War II fame—also recognized as the ‘Jew hunter’ by the Nazis). Why did the American Armenians fly his body back to Armenia to be reburied there with full state and military honors? Why did American Armenians spend most of this quarter of a million dollars to establish a youth leadership institute in this old Nazis’ name in their “ancient homeland?” Just exactly what are they teaching the youth in Armenia, — how to be better Nazis in today’s world? When he was alive, this so-called General Drastamat Kanayan, or “Dro” was posthumously condemned to be shot by a firing squad of Stalin’s goons, themselves. That’s why the Diaspora Armenians smuggled him into the USA by bribing the INS functionaries. He lived in the U.S. until his death a decade or so ago in Massachusetts and was buried there in an unmarked grave.
In contract, what did the Ottoman Turks do? Well, they sent ships to Spain to rescue the Jews that were going to be killed during the Spanish Inquisition. Many Sephardic Jews still live in Turkey to the present.
How can anyone who is Jewish support an Armenian Genocide bill and take a position against Turkey and in favor of Armenia? How can any American? Especially when we know a genocide did not occur against Armenian and that this is mere propaganda?

    HERE ARE THE TRUE FACTS
There are more Armenian churches in Turkey today than there are in the Armenian Republic. If the Turks were so bad and insufferable as claimed then why does the Turkish government permit many Armenian Churches to exercise so freely in Turkey?
Everyone knows that the Armenian Republic refuses to permit a single Muslim mosque to operate within its borders, nor do they allow anyone to examine their historical archives — why don’t they inquire why the Armenians do not allow freedom of religion or research as do the Muslim Turks?
I have been researching (using mostly Armenian sources) to learn the real truth about the terrorism committed by Armenia. Contemporary Armenian historians are not telling the truth? Why? Because they cannot afford to do so. They are the ones who should be called truly ‘salaried commercial writers.’
It is very clear to me that Armenians are an excellent example of hatred. They are taught to hate Turks from birth and that is their biggest problem. Why?? They want LAND.
The present day Turkish topography was established over one thousand years ago. This country is a mere 231 years old. Are the Armenians living here willing for the USA to give up their homes and lands to the Spaniards, French and Mexicans, who in turn should give them back to the Indians of earlier days? Then why try to apply such a standard to Turkey? Lets be fair. Don’t do on to others what you would not want them to do on to you.
Armenian ancestors joined forces with the invading Russians back in 1915 and also before that date going back to the early 1800s. They committed great treason against their own country and government (Ottoman Turks). Hence, Armenian families were taken out of the combat zone — let me repeat, not because of any genocide, but because they were stabbing their own government in the back and helping the enemies of the Ottoman Empire where they lived in peace and harmony with Muslim Turks for more than 700 years. In short, the Armenians were nothing more than traitors. They were a treacherous group of rebel insurgents fighting against their very own country and government because they wanted their government’s land for free!
Shortly after Japan made its sneak attack on the United States on December 7, 1941 the American government relocated every Japanese-American, bar none, from California and from the entire West Coast of America. These Japanese-American citizens were forced to sell their property for what they could get for it on short notice, were taken inland and placed in “concentration camps.” Many of them were located in several states in the USA. So, the Japanese-Americans lived in wooden barracks (several families in a one-room building) inside barbed wire fences and guarded by armed US soldiers. There was never any proof that these Japanese-Americans were disloyal to the United States. What would we have done here in the US if the attach on Pearl Harbor was not by Japan but by Japanese-American? Now take the over 3000 US casualties and repeat it with 700 more similar attach (Armenians murdered over 2,000,000 Ottoman Turks, that were their neighbors). Just think what we would have done to the Japanese community here. The Ottoman Turks were truly moral especially for their times 1915-1923).
The Armenians had revolted in large numbers, and began to assassinate their own Muslim neighbors, killing everyone including children. What they were doing was so cruel that they were even punished by their Russian military masters. Many of them were shot to death. The atrocities committed by the Armenians were much worst than what we saw during Pearl Harbor or 9/11.
The historical record is very clear—Armenians killed more Turks during the World War I years than Turks have ever been accused of killing Armenians. The bogus numbers started with at the end of the First World War have been magically growing. The former Prime Minister of Armenia give the figure of those who perished during the relocation as being between 300,000 to 600,000. But nowadays because of inflationary reasons, maybe, the number has been adjusted to be 1.5 million. Who knows what tomorrow will bring, 2 million perhaps?
But lets look at more recent history to see how humanitarian the Armenians are. Armenians made a sneaky attack on the Azerbaijanis in 1992. Without a declaration of war Armenian commandos supported by their Russian masters, swooped down the mountains of Nagorno Karabakh on a freezing winter night and slit the throats of 5000 innocent Azeri men, women, and children while they slept in their beds. The international Media wrote hundreds of articles and published photographs of the massacres committed upon unarmed Azeri civilians—more than 30,000 of them were butchered in a matter of months. How do you justify this mass murder of unarmed civilians, most of them children and elderly? These records are available for all to see.
Many American and European journalists who traveled to Azerbaijan and walked the muddy fields of the refugee camps where the Armenian Republic soldiers in cooperation with their Russian Masters had driven more than one million poor Muslims out of their homes. The “Christian” Armenians now force these poor people to live in absolute poverty under horrible conditions allegedly acting in the name of Christianity. We do not accept such a perverse interpretation and know they do not stand for Christianity.
There are dozens and dozens of documents and color photos of how Armenians treated unarmed civilians, men-women, young and old when they attacked Azerbaijan, in 1992. These countless photos prove that no civilized and compassionate man could have ever done to another human being what the Armenian did to innocent unarmed Azeris. Here is an incomplete list from what I remember of some of the pictures. They were so revolting to watch that I came close to losing the content of my stomach more then once.
    (a) Old men, old women, and children with their ears cut off before Armenians massacred them. (Similar photographs exist for the era during the World War I years also)
    (b) Young teenage boys who had their penis cut off and stuck into their mouth before they were shot at point blank range in the head. (Similar photographs exist for the era during the World War I years in Yerevan, (Erivan) whose population was 45% Muslim at one time).
    (b) Old men and old women who had their throats cut from ear to ear by Armenians. (Similar photographs exist for the era during the World War I years in the city of Erzurum)
    (c) Young children—both boys and girls under 5 years of age that had their heads chopped off by Armenians.
Lets take it back a little bit. How can anyone explain and justify the hundreds of terrorist attacks and murders committed by the Armenians upon Turkish officials around the world beginning in the early 1970s (including the state of California, in the beautiful city of Santa Barbara). How can anyone explain the fact that Armenian terrorists killed over 60 Turkish diplomats, their family members and other innocent bystanders and wounded many people, most of them being non -Turks, throughout the world? When one Armenian was killed in Turkey, everyone citizens and the government condemned the killing and stood by the Turkish-Armenian community (Hirant Dink). But when over 60 Turks were killed by Armenian terrorist, the Armenian community applauded.

  • 25 Danny S // Sep 10, 2009 at 7:32 pm

Simple question then. What right did the Ottomans have to claim the Armenians as a subject people? The right of conquest?

And in relation, is that legitimate?

That is bad about the Nazi-relation with some Armenians. But I don’t see how you can deny a genocide occurred. If some Americans rebelled against Britain and tried to take government land, would you support relocating the Americans to Australia or imprisoning them?

  • 26 Trent Hill // Sep 10, 2009 at 7:50 pm

Also, that 100,000 armenians supported the nazis is certainly bad–but by no means does it justify what the Turks did to the Armenians 30 years prior. Nor was 100,000 the majority of Armenians, it was maybe 5%.

so in conclusion , all nations , peoples , races and empires have screwed and murdered or oppressed others at some time in History.
