James G. Abourezk, a former member of the U.S. Senate from South Dakota, and also a former House member, is one of Ralph Nader’s three presidential elector candidates in that state this year. Abourezk also introduced Nader when Nader campaigned in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, on October 11. Abourezk was elected to the U.S. House as a Democrat in 1970, and he was elected to the Senate in 1972. He was born in 1931.

Abourek was not defeated in 1978. Abourezk chose not to run for reelection.
James was defeated by Republican Larry Pressler in 1978, after just one term.
Any independence shown by high ranking (even former) duopolists is a step in the right direction.
This has been a good year that way, if nothing else.
Very cool. It’s always nice to see a former federal legislature stay true to their ideals rather than drinking the Obama Kool-Aid.
I’d also like to ask everyone to pray for Obama’s late grandmother, who died today. My grandmother died last year, and I know it is very hard, so I hope for even his opponents to pray for her. Also, a figure of the divine mystery like this person who raised Obama does deserve special prayers, amen.
Traitor.
This was the hero of one of my own heroes, Tom Daschle. i hope James comes to his senses and joins the Obama Revolution tomorrow.
