The Sun Sentinel reports
Anthony Thomas Mauro qualified to run against Atwater as a Green Party candidate. To date he hasn’t met Atwater and he hasn’t run into the Democratic candidate, Linda Bird, either. That’s because Mauro isn’t doing much campaigning. He’s raised no money and doesn’t have a Web site.
Mauro switched from Republican to Green Party in May, according to elections officials. That and his relative invisibility on the campaign trail sparked speculation he was put in the race to help Atwater, by siphoning off the anti-Atwater vote so Bird can’t get all those votes herself.
“All those statements are false,” Mauro said in a recent interview. “I’m really a college student just trying to network myself, get my name out there and make a change for our state.”

Don’t run for anything unless you are prepared to work for it

Why not, ModernWhig?
I’m always thankful for a broad range of candidates, even the ones who don’t actively campaign.
In fact, I usually vote for those candidates just as a protest of the way our political system works.
