Libertarian Barr looking beyond Election Day

The Atlanta Journal Constitution writes that Bob Barr, “reaching the end of an improbable campaign, is already slipping into post-election mode — a period in which the Libertarian presidential candidate will try to build his party into something more than a quadrennial spoiler.” Barr “was remarkably upbeat” during a Friday interview, for a “man barely registering in the polls.” Barr “expects to do several points better than 2 percent in Georgia — not that this is about small numbers anymore. His purpose now is to make the difference between Obama and McCain in as many states as possible in the final days, Barr said. Power, and respect, comes with the ability to change the outcome of a given situation.”

Meanwhile, the AP reports U.S. District Judge Janet Hall ruled that Connecticut elections officials do not have to add Barr and running mate Wayne Allyn Root to the state’s ballot, saying Connecticut Libertarians “waited too long to file their challenge. … Forcing elections officials to change Connecticut’s ballot less than two weeks before the vote would cause confusion and unreasonable expense, Hall said in her ruling.” The Hartford Courant says the Barr campaign “claims that the state screwed up its review of 12,000 signatures the campaign turned in to meet the 7,500-signature requirement to get on the ballot.”

“I think the irony is that Barr is looking to build a Libertarian Party that he all but tried to destroy during his campaign.”

Ding ding ding! We have a winner!

..Wow, I thought a lot of you were better than this. -.-

Michael, he’s been spending the last many months fundraising for his PAC to donate to the GOP opponents of LP candidates. Try to keep up. -grin-

‘I’m guessing everyone sees the irony here then?’

I have no idea what this refers to.

Speaking of being left out of a Georgia poll, Barr said:

“Unfortunately, we’re used to it. It’s unfortunate that polling organizations do that. I don’t quite understand why. Why they do that I don’t know — other than the fact that polling organizations, by and large, have the same inbred bias against third parties [as] much of the national media,” Barr said.

The issue is simple. Most polling organizations use a single axis political spectrum, when any policial science major knows the spectrum has two axes. And the reason polling organizations do that is because the mainstream media likes a tug of war, because it is easier to report than a free-for-all.

This is myopic, and ultimately, erroneous thinking. See, CATO Policy Analysis 580: http://www.cato.org/pub_display.php?pub_id=6715

Presumably having a noted Congressman on the top of the ticket got Congressional candidates mor visibility.
