At least Root has the guts to show up. I just hope he isn’t a total embarrassment. I wonder why the Greens don’t participate?

    What’s up with Rosa?

I think the DC debate should have quelled any fears that the FREE debates would be too Nader-centric. If Baldwin, Castle and Root can suck it up and participate, so can the Greens, even if there is some bad blood with the debate organizers.

To his credit, Wayne is handling this better than the top of his ticket. If Rosa doesn’t do better than the top of hers here, the Greens will be the big losers in all this.

Suck it up is right. You all saw the last “debate”.

The Catholic Trotskyist Party of America has requested that the pope will pray for Rosa Clemente to participate. Praise be unto General Obama and Sam Reed. God bless Jeremiah Wright, amen.

    Paulie,

I think the last debate was pretty obviously pre-desposed to Nader.

I think that Baldwin did not say anything to hurt him but could have hit a few home run instead settled for base hits. Like not explaining that government involvement has driven up help care costs.
As for as the VPs WAR showing up may be a bigger mistake than Barr not showing up.

wow, five days notice! a new record!

Yes, but Baldwin gained the most by participating, since he started out with less, and McKinney lost the most by not participating. Whatever Hedges bloviating, Baldwin was able to get his points across; Barr and/or McKinney would have been able to as well.

Congrats to W.A.R. for having the guts to show up for a debate in his hometown!

Barr’s web site apparently isn’t allowing this comment, but here’s a link to the NBC interview

svf, it seems like the campaigns have known about this for longer, because the press release listed candidates that were confirmed.

Congrats to W.A.R. for having the guts to show up for a debate in his hometown!

    I’m guessing that’s probably why it’s there.

Good for Root!! He will represent the LP well in the debate I’m sure.

It’s too bad Barr wouldn’t debate.

  • 14 paulie cannoli // Oct 28, 2008 at 6:22 pm

I’m hearing a rumor that Barr did offer to be in one debate, and the schedule did not work out. But it’s n-th hand, where n represents a number which is unknown to me, so I have no idea.

LFV wouldn’t allow me to post that info either.

Maybe my IP address has been blocked by so many mainstream media web sites that I have comment-preventing cookies/cooties. :-0

Are you cross posting it on a lot of sites? You may be getting flagged as a spammer.

I had to pull it out of spam here.

Since I no longer write at LFV, I can’t help you there. ENM usually gets around to it eventually, just not as fast as when we were both doing it.

Are you cross posting it on a lot of sites?

I dunno. Is three (IPR, LFV, and Barr2008) a lot?

  • 18 paulie cannoli // Oct 28, 2008 at 9:57 pm

Shouldn’t be. Dunno why you’re getting flagged. Only one link. Hmmm.

Have you cross-posted the same comment on a lot of sites before? Try erasing cookies, maybe?

I bet WAR touts himself as the 2012 LP nominee at this thing.

  • 20 paulie cannoli // Oct 29, 2008 at 12:00 am

    2012, 16 and 20, with a win in 2020 and a Rootatarian America starting in 2021.

    No kiddin’.

  • 21 darolew // Oct 29, 2008 at 4:35 am

In Root’s case, it might be better if he doesn’t show up… I suppose as long as his behavior isn’t too bad, it’ll be alright.

“Praise be unto General Obama and Sam Reed.”

You’re doing that just to annoy me, aren’t you?

Nader is very popular with the Green constituency, if not their leadership.
Over 4,000 Green Party Members petitioned Nader to run for president last year and early this year. Because it was becoming divisive with some of Cynthia’s supporters, Nader decided to run a parallel campaign to try to help bring the main issues into the light, such as the lopsided Israel/Palestine policies, wasteful, bloated imperialist style military budget, unconstitutionality of the Patriot and FISA acts, wasteful and immoral health care policies beholden to big money lobbyists, etc, etc.
There is so much crap from Obama and McCain distracting from real discussions of issues. The people or Congress have never been asked if they want the SPP and NAFTA/NASCO supercorridor even.

I’ve tried talking to the Green Party but I usually receive responses from some of their members but none of their official contacts. I heard McKinney on NPR diss the debates because it was mostly Nader supporters trying to put it together. I’ve talked to Christina Tobin, who has been trying to organize them, and she says she’s left messages at the numbers she has been given and has not received any attempts from the Green Party to collaborate, at least that was last week.

That is unfortunate. I hope Clemente makes it. It seems like Nader is the only progressive voice and McKinney has shown insight that would be interesting. It would help them for Clemente present the Green Party case.
