Will Ron Paul be allowed to speak at the National Press Club tomorrow? It would certainly help his campaign to be seen on television.

If Obama loses this election, the Democratic Party might realize it has been out-big-governmented by the GOP. If there was a legitimate Jefferson/Cleveland wing of Gold Democrats to step up, there could be possibility. I see none of this. Even the Ron Paul Democrats are all protectionist, completely thwarting the great history of Democratic Party classical liberalism.

"If not, how about running someone as a Democrat next time?"

Name someone who could do HALF as well as Johnson or Goldwater would do in the Republican primaries who is also pro-freedom.
Also--this is just as pointless as drafting a third-party candidate, except THIS guy will get into the debates. The point is to utilize everyone Ron Paul has done in the Republican Party thus far,and the resources of the 100,000 member+ Campaign for Liberty.

Mike Gillis,

Here is the list of presidential elector slates that filed in Louisiana:

http://www400.sos.louisiana.gov/cgibin/?rqstyp=CNDMD&rqsdta=110408&ID=01017141

However, there is a possibility that this list will change in the coming days. The La. Sec. of State's office is still recovering from the hurricane. The webpage linked above should update as any changes in the lineup are made.

Paulie,

Im not so sure. I used to be convinced of that--but I dont think anyone could disagree than Ron Paul only got as much press and attention as he did because he was a Republican and in the debates.

"Ventura will not hold together the Ron Paul coalition. Any new standard bearer has to be pro-life and not hostile to religion. Otherwise you lose the conservative element of his coalition."

Ventura is an entertaining guy, and has gotten closer to being a liberty-candidate in the past couple of months (I guess because of the Ron Paul campaign) and I trust him--he is an honest guy. But I would not try to draft him, and he would not run as a republican--but as a third-partier. Ron Paul activists are looking for a Republican to draft, i.e.--Rep. Goldwater, Gov. Johnson, etc.

There is rumor of a network of draft movements---to court freedom-candidates in big elections all over the country. For example, recruiting State Senator Jerry Ward to run for Governor in Alaska and former state Rep. Dick Randolph as Lt. Governor--one an AIPer and one an LPer, both to run in the Republican primary together. Former Rep. Don Gorman to run for Congress or Senate in NH as a Republican. Rep. Michael Doherty for Congress in New Jersey. Rep. Roger Koopman or state senator Aubyn Curtis for Governor/Lt. Governor in Montana.

That's not to suggest that Ventura is a good choice.

With politicians who have actually been elected before, record in office speaks more loudly than any amount of fine rhetoric. Thomas Jefferson was great on paper, not so great as president. Ronald Reagan said some good things, but he did not mean them. The USSR had a constitution, but nobody followed it. But then, the same is true of the US.

Jesse Ventura has always run on libertarian rhetoric - for mayor, then governor, and now perhaps for president. He has always governed as a centrist liberal.

"Just out of curiousity, who are the electors for the Louisiana Taxpayers slate? I’m pretty sure you and Walter Block are, but who are the other seven?"

Walter Block is not an elector. Most of them are relative-unknowns, just regular activists from around LA. Originally the plan had been to get some of our prominent guys, the former state director, the chairman of the Louisiana Taxpayers Union, the executive director of Louisiana Right to Life, the chairmen of the LP and CP in LA---but time did not permit us to do this. Still--all of those people support us.

Yeah, cause anyone that uses that euphemism must be referring to someone homosexual. How narrow-minded. I'm wondering why Goldwater did not actually run, himself. Is that so mind-boggling or audacious to ponder?

Back on topic, if he managed to get that spot on a major network, and NOT C-Span, I would certainly be interested, but McCain and Obama would certainly not show and it would probably be pitted against football or something of the like for some local affiliate or empty station. (Like myNetwork.) Coupled with Barr's statements to debating other third party candidates...

Our new one is pretty well-done I think. It will debut in a couple days and i'll keep you guys posted.

Hugh Jass,

Any draft movement will likely take place through the Republican primaries--as that is what Ron Paul did and part of why he got so much attention. Had Giuliani never argued with Ron Paul at that first presidential debate--the Ron Paul revolution would have never launched the way it did.

If the LATP is still around in 2012, and I suspect it might be, I may not even be involved. But I'd guess that it'd probably place someone other than a draft candidate on the ballot---we dont want to become the Independent Greens or anything.

If the LTP is still around in 2012, is it possible that they might have a convention to put one of those draft candidates on the ballot?
