In a message with the subject “Disaffiliate, nominate and file new executive ticket” emailed to Libertarian state parties and some activists in the wake of this weekend’s Libertarian National Committee meeting, “Progressive Alliance” presidential hopeful Robert Milnes calls once more for the LP to abandon its ticket and nominate a ticket with him at its head and some prominent female Libertarian for vice president. Last week, Milnes indicated he is likely to run again in 2012. Milnes’s message is below.
Open Letter to All Libertarian State Parties. Greetings! Like you I am sure, I have been following developments with the Libertarian Party, its executive ticket and the rapidly approaching election. Unfortunately in my opinion, the LP is dysfunctional, its executive ticket is conservative, not libertarian or progressive and the LP not only is clearly going to lose the election by the usual huge margin but has thusfar ignored a possible winning strategy; the proposed Progressive Alliance Strategy. However the purpose of this message is not to discuss or debate this. It is to submit for your consideration a last ditch proposal to try to salvage the situation. I do not believe the LNC can. I believe each state party could function without national LP at least through to the election. If a state party were to disaffiliate with national presumably it could then withdraw its support for the national ticket. It could nominate & file with the state its own executive ticket. It would clearly be better for all state parties to nominate the same new ticket. I recommend a viable progressive alliance fusion ticket. That is a male leftist/Green p and female left libertarian (purist) vp. This kind of ticket should be inclusive & garner the leftist vote (27%) + The Libertarian Vote (13%). see Cato Institute study The Libertarian Vote. 40% possible vote is very viable and competitive in a close 3 way race. Clearly Barr/Root is not a viable fusion ticket; neither is The Boston Tea Party ticket of Jay/Knapp. Kubby/Ruwart, although probably tempting to you, also would not be a fusion ticket. Neither is Phillies/Bennett. From the available previously declared or possible candidates that I know of there are 2 main possible viable fusion tickets. Milnes/Kwiatkowski, Ruwart or Keaton OR Gravel/Kwiatkowski, Ruwart or Keaton. Gravel had endorsed Jesse Johnson so Johnson/Kwiatkowski, Ruwart or Keaton is possible. Also Kent Mesplay expressed an interest in a fusion ticket. Mesplay/Kwiatkowski, Ruwart or Keaton. I believe that if Teddy Roosevelt had endorsed a democrat or leftist as vp (this was before women had a vote -1912), he may very well have won that election instead of second place at 27%. So, I submit my proposal & reasoning to you with my best wishes. Good Luck! RWM.

My Republican Party meeting experience: The Genesee County Chairman gave the Ron Paul campaign two tickets to the Tuscola County Lincoln Day (gag!) dinner because, in her words, it was “important that we all come together and support the eventual nominee, whoever that may be.” I, very bourgeois in a gray business suit, and a 50-year-old attorney, same, went.
We were automatically viewed as outsiders among the incestuous club that didn’t recognize us from previous cross burnings, I mean meetings. When we told people whom we supported, they snickered at us. It was like being huge dorks in the lunchroom, we had a very difficult time finding a table. Eventually, a group magnanimously allowed us to take our seats like the crusading egalitarians who take in the new kids and/or foreign-exchange students at school.
We start making small talk with the fascists. I start talking PHP with this scumbag government school teacher, all upset because he’s out of a job (WAHWAH, get a REAL JOB, loser!) and we’re getting along. Then someone says, jokingly, not knowing that I was a Ron Paul man, “Oh, you guys sound like dorks, you must be Ron Paul supporters, hahah!” The fascist I’m talking to is violently offended at this notion and especially of being lumped in with me, and he says Ron Paul is a “communist” (his literal words) because he didn’t want to essentially commit genocide against the Arab race. He says, no joking, that all non-children of Arab lineage should be exterminated, because that’s the only way we’ll ever win. NO ONE, with about 10 listeners, disagrees.
Duncan Hunter is in attendance. That’s how pitiful his campaign was. All the other candidates are attending a debate, but he wasn’t invited because he’s such a loser. Being a socialist, he complains about this “unfairness.” He comes around to our table and the genocidal fascist asks about that ridiculous incident with the Iranian speedboats approaching one of our Imperial Destroyers. Hunter comes out for genocide against Iran and says “If they got another 10 feet closer, we’d have turned that place into a glass parking lot” — not joking, that’s what he said.
Then I had to sit through a ton of collectivist, anti-business, militarist, xenophobic, and gay-scapegoating speeches from pitiful candidates with no appreciation of political philosophy, economics, or the Constitution. Hunter gives a completely fascist speech aggrandizing his idiot son’s decision to join the state’s killing machine. And last and most certainly least, a speaker on behalf of Ron Paul takes the stage to a much smaller crowd, and gets dead silence as a reaction.
Good luck, Trent.
In related news, a hobo in front of the Aamco down the street has announced he finally figured out how to win at Waterloo.
GE,
You’ve attended one more GOP meeting than I–but I’v no interest in joining their fascist club, only in working through Ron Paul’s group.
“So you think that 75% of the people who voted for Ron Paul were Republicans?”
No, I think of the 1,000,000 people who voted for Paul–I’d agree with about 750,000 of them on 95% of issues.
I dont care if all of them consider themselves Republicans or ARE actually Republicans–I only care that they werre willing to register into the Republican Party to help a good pro-liberty candidate.
So you think that 75% of the people who voted for Ron Paul were Republicans?
You are way, way, WAY off.
Look at the exit polling: The majority of Ron Paul’s votes came from LIBERALS. He scored the best among atheists, pro-abortionists, and people who called themselves liberals. These are not people who are in the GOP. Yeah, MAYBE 1/3 of his votes came from regular Republicans. MAYBE. So you’re looking at a base of what, 2% of Republican primary voters?
I don’t have a better idea, but if you’re able to work within the GOP, they should profile you on that TLC show Dirty Jobs. I attended ONE GOP meeting in the course of my Ron Paul meeting and I was hoping it got hit by a meteor — I’d have been willing to go to take out the building full of fascist scum.
GE,
I worked one of the most liberal elements of Ron Paul’s base. I was the Director of Students for Paul at LSU, a university in an urban area (albiet a traditionally conservative one). I’d say roughly 30% of them were Republican.
GE,
There are people “like me” in the GOP, CP, and LP—in roughly the same amounts, too. In the CP, around 100,000. In the LP, around 400,000. In the Republican Party–I’d guess roughly 750,000.
The difference? I could recruit the most high-profile candidate in LP or CP history and he would probably STILL never get on national television, lol. Our system is biased against third-parties,especially the media. With that said, I’m still working within the third-party system now–but am catching LOTS of flack for the Ron Paul/Goldwater Jr thing. Its dissillusioning me.
I managed Ron Paul’s office in Flint, MI. Of the maybe 1000 people who came through there, exactly ONE was a Republican. The rest were independents, Democrats, Libertarians, and CP. Of my Ron Paul Meetup group, about 80 people, ZERO were Republicans. Of Michigan’s Ron Paul County Coordinators, maybe 25% were Republicans. Taking it nationally, every time the GOP was denounced in at the C4L Rally, there were mass cheers. Ron Paul’s ability to get elected as a Republican is a freak of nature, and one we can be glad for. But you’re totally deluding yourself to think there are people “like you” in the GOP. You’re going to be very very disappointed.
Trent – Good luck in the evil Party of Lincoln. If you think those million who voted for him were “Republicans” you are sorely mistaken. The Republican Party was founded in the name of evil and has been very true to its founding, with a few notable exceptions in the 1940s and 50s. Even the Daily Paul founder has bailed from the GOP.
Fred,
Ron Paul’s campaign showed me there are a million people whose views are pretty close to mine in the Republican Party–and that they can get THEIR preferred candidate in the media, raise $34 million, and make his name a household one.
When we started that campaign, I knew only 2-3 people (in real life that is) who knew who Ron Paul was. Now he is known by ANYONE who is politically active (or mildly politically active) and is liked by many of them.
Not sure how much longer I can handle the eternal drama.
You & me both, Trent.

Ha, that’s very true. I plan to stick around for the rest of my life. I’m the probable LP nominee for city council, and Barr’s Manhattan coordinator. I find the drama to be incredibly entertaining, and I think I’ll start a Libertarian club at my highschool. I feel it’s essential to spread the message, but I’ll keep the highly entertaining squabbles to myself. Mike, why did Milnes get arrested? And now I’m a little worried about Robert as well.
Indeed.
All third-parties are. Not sure how much longer I can handle the eternal drama.
Yep, and you’ve already met the super attractive main character Mike Theodore.
Stick around. It’s a total soap opera, nonstop.
I should be a Milnes biographer.
Never struck it rich.
He doesn’t have a job. Doesn’t appear to be searching.
He has depression.
He has more than that, for sure. He was in a mental hospital for a while, if I remember correctly. That stemmed from an FBI arrest.
He’s been “running” for this nomination for quite a while now.
Not really “respected”, but we’re all worried about Robert.
I’m not sure how much family he has left, I know he has cats…
Lol, what a strange man. Has he ever struck it rich? And what is his occupation? I heard he has mild depression, though if he feels he can win the presidency, I bet he more of a mental disorder than that. And how long has been running for president? And does he have any influence in any party (I’d doubt it). Is he well respected with anyone (I’d doubt it as well)? Does he have a family (again, I’d doubt that). I’m a recent convert to the LP (April of this year with the Gravel campaign), so I’m still trying to know who everyone is.
He said he was going to help a friend in California and then mine for gold. Every time he disappears I think he went to do that, but then he comes back.
Lol, that is a good slogan. But Milnes reminds me of that Chris Matthews segment on his show called “sideshow”. It’s the most minor part of the show, but often the most interesting. It talks about quirky people, and is almost always amusing, and entertaining, though not at all important. If Matthews for some reason dedicated a show to third parties, Milnes would be in it everyday and would certainly be the most entertaining aspect of the show. And where the hell is Milnes to defend himself? He used to be a constant poster on IPR. Did he just disappear?
OMG! I’M PUTTING THAT ON A BUMPER STICKER!
More like the Robert Milnes DeLOSEion.
[/sarcasm]
What, is the LP afraid of the Robert Milnes r3VOLution?
One: himself
Two: I know one person that voted for him as a joke.
OK, I laughed.
Harold Stassen was once a Governor. Robert Milnes has recieved like…..2 votes….in the BTP online primary.
Here’s the thing, he doesn’t go anywhere. All of these are managed from his trailer computer.
I’d say he had better things to do…but he doesn’t.
I just find this guy to be entertaining. What’s his record?
Green Party, LP, BTP, and now he’s trying to go to each state within the LP? I always enjoy the perennial candidates. He reminds me of a more minor version of Harold Stassen. And I can tell you much about Harold Stassen and his presidential campaigns.
Give it time, Dodge. You’ll lose patience fast.
Believe me, I was the cuddliest of teddy bears a matter of months ago.
Robert who?
No reason for Milnes to go away. He makes this race a little more fun.
That’s what they all say. But within a month, you just want him to go away.
Lol, I’m not saying it’s working, but as a fellow man, it’s pretty clear to see his real motives by choosing a woman vice president. It’s like that’s the only part of his platform. But hey, he’s trying, and he’s fighting the good fight. I have good amount of respect for this guy, and he is unique in his politics. I hope he’s successful in something.
Yeah, crazy ranting really drives the girls wild.
I I think Milnes doing this as a really grand scheme to get laid.
The basic idea isn’t too bad, and it seems like Ron Paul might be doing something similar tomorrow (uniting third parties, that is). But I don’t see why Milnes thinks he would be the best person to lead that ticket.
Jason,
He has an extreme addiction with opposites. He see’s two people on totally different sides of an issue and he says “let’s put them on a ticket”.
I guess it came to him in one of his many dreams that a woman would be a clever way to get the point across.
It’s like his brain has a force field against reality that not even Superman could put a dent in.
Milnes’s reality check bounced.
Awwwe, Robert Milnes is adorable. Keep on fighting my friend.
Seems to me like Milnes has a slight grasp on the right problem, trouble is he fails to realize that he is NOT the right solution…
(Also he seems to ignore the reality that in most states it would probably be to late to change the ticket. Certainly it would be to late by the time a state party just did the mechanics of going through a process link he suggests…)
Note that this is coming from a person who IS in favor of disaffiliating w/ the LNC…
ART
Why is the woman always listed second with a “fusion ticket”???
