A Green Party National Committee resolution is under consideration which calls on the United States to end the “war on drugs” and to find ways to mitigate the damage done to individuals and communities. The proposal is in the voting stage with only a few votes against.
The proposal calls specifically for investigating the links between the drug war and the prison-industrial complex, as well as legalizing and taxing marijuana, using those funds to pay for infrastructure needs of communities damaged as a form of reparations. It also calls on using this tax revenue to fund rehabilitation programs for people addicted who want help to leave their addictions behind.

Yes, the Democratic Party has had a tragic legacy of supporting the Republican drug war. The Greens should definitely lobby Obama to do something about this when he becomes President.

The Catholic Trotskyist Party of America will also be helping the Green and Libertarian Parties in this matter.
