Will Barr’s campaign manager be fired?

The IPR-coined term “Snubgate” made it to the most widely read libertarian Web site in the world, LewRockwell.com, today, when Eric Garris published an entry on the LRC blog asking if the Barr campaign’s leadership is “splitting.”

Garris’s question was prompted by the scathing editorial David Franke, a conservative movement veteran, posted at Third Party Watch.… Read more ...

Bob Barr, LPNH sue to kick George Phillies off New Hampshire ballot

As reported by Last Free Voice:

A reporter for the Nashua Telegraph has been calling libertarians today about a lawsuit filed in US District Court.

Bob Barr and the Libertarian Party of New Hampshire Executive Committee are named as plaintiffs in the lawsuit. However, this is not a typical ballot substitution action; instead, it is an action to remove George Phillies from the New Hampshire ballot. This therefore appears to be the expected lawsuit previously discussed on Last Free Voice.

George Phillies starts new ‘pro-liberty’ group with ‘centrist’ platform

For $15 a year, you can be a member of George Phillies’s Liberty for America promoting “libertarian centrism.” What are the “litmus tests” of libertarian centrism? The Libertarian Centrist Manifesto says:

  • You must be pro-legal abortion
  • You must ignore “critics of central banking” (i.e. be pro-Fed)
  • You must “shun” so-called “Confederate sympathizers” who are on par with “Holocaust deniers”
  • You must support the idea that it’s “only through government that men will stay free”
  • You must oppose “states’ rights”
  • You must support equality in marriage, adoption, and access to military service

Motion to remove Barr as LP nominee has been written

Despite the blackout by third-party media outlets sympathetic to and/or controlled by the Barr campaign, there is a serious effort under way to remove Bob Barr as the Libertarian Party’s presidential nominee. In order for the issue to be taken to a vote among LNC members, only one rep need make the motion and another second it.… Read more ...

Might be too late for Ron Paul to remove name from Montana ballot

As noted yesterday on IPR, Ron Paul filed a request with the Montana Secretary of State asking that his name be removed from the ballot as the Presidential nominee of the disaffiliated Constitution Party of Montana, deferring to national Constitution Party nominee Chuck Baldwin. As of today, the Secretary of State has responded that Paul should have made his request by September 5th and all but 5 counties have already finalized their ballots.… Read more ...

Barr campaign calls for advertising concepts

Shane Cory, former Libertarian Party Executive Director and Deputy Campaign Manager for Presidential nominee Bob Barr, has written a call for submissions from Barr supporters for “your concepts or even full commercials” to start the campaign’s media effort. After discussing his fondness for Washington’s 2006 Libertarian Senate nominee Bruce Guthrie’s “Don’t be a Party Puppet” ads (found here and here), Cory provides instructions on submission and closes with a call for donations.… Read more ...

Socialist Workers Party ticket on ballot in 10 states

In its newspaper The Militant, the Socialist Workers Party says it has “succeeded in putting the presidential ticket of Roger Calero and his running mate Alyson Kennedy on the ballot in 10 states” with its recent certification in New York and Vermont. The article is not entirely accurate, however, since in some states a substitute presidential candidate has been listed due to Calero’s constitutional ineligibility to serve as president.… Read more ...

Nader: The Federal Reserve ‘totally out of control’

Although he curiously avoided mentioning it in his statement to Ron Paul supporters, independent presidential candidate Ralph Nader was not shy about condemning the Federal Reserve when he appeared on CNN with Ron Paul on Wednesday.

“The Federal Reserve is now a government within a government,” Nader said. “It is totally out of control.… Read more ...

Barr takes part in ‘Funniest Celebrity in Washington’ contest

Washingtonian.com says Libertarian presidential candidate Bob Barr “was at his comic best with self-deprecating remarks” at the 15th Annual Funniest Celebrity in Washington contest on Tuesday night. Though the article does not actually quote any of Barr’s routine, ABCNews.com has one Barr joke: “Does anybody know what the difference between a bulldog and a hockey mom is?… Read more ...
