A Minnesota Public Radio/University of Minnesota Humphrey Institute poll of 763 likely Minnesota voters conducted August 7-17 (+/- 3.6%) has independent Ralph Nader at three percent and Libertarian Bob Barr at one percent in the presidential race in the state.

Disappointing, but better than last time considering Nader only received less than 1% in MN after getting over 5% there in 2000. I really can’t recall the last time, if ever, that a Libertarian Presidential candidate broke 1% or registered anywhere on the radar. The MN LP is small and disorganized, and does not run many candidates.
I think having four major parties in MN until 2004 stunted the growth of the LP and CP in this state. The Greens were knocked to the floor in 2004. And the MN Independence Party continues to reach the 5% threshold they need to stay a major party. Though I appreciate the MNIP’s local and state candidates, they seem to help keep the LP and CP Presidential candidates down here. Since they don’t run their own Presidential candidate, they need to start endorsing someone.
