The war in Iraq was the focus of a protest at Congressman Ron Kind's La Crosse office Thursday.

The group "Voices for Creative Non-Violence" spoke with Kind's staff today. Even though kind wasn't in La Crosse the group is asking him to stop voting for continued spending for the war in Iraq.

The protesters are walking from Chicago to the Republican National Convention in Saint Paul in an effort to spread their message, 'hold peaceful protests to the war,' and hear from Wisconsin residents.

"The overwhelmingly postive response we've gotten from peopel along the way. The tide of public opinion in the country has certainly turned agaisnt the war in iraq. And its time for us to bring it to an end in a substative way," said Dan Pearson of Voices for Creative Non-Violence.

Also at today's protest was Kevin Barrett, a Libertarian challenger to Ron Kind this November. He says he supports the group's message and accuses Kind and other lawmakers of lying about the war.

"The troops have, and will contine to be my primary focus as we work to ultimately end our involvement in Iraq. I have repeatedly voted for a responsible timeline for their redeployment back home, and believe much of the remaining work in Iraq lies with the Iraqi government and people. But as long as we have our young men and women in harm's way, I want to make sure they have the tools they need to be safe," Ron Kind.

Congressman Kind tells NewsChannel 8 his primary focus is to end U.S. involvement in Iraq. He says he has repeatedly voted for a responsible timeline for troop redeployment back home. But Kind says as long as soldiers are in harm's way he will make sure they have the tools they need to be safe.
