At least 271 candidates for president in 2008

InfoZine has a feature on the “271 candidates who have announced their intentions to run and 62 more potential candidates who could run” for president this year, as listed by Project VoteSmart. In addition to Constitution Party nominee Chuck Baldwin, Libertarian Bob Barr, Green Cynthia McKinney, and independent Ralph Nader, the piece also mentions Prohibition candidate Gene Amondson and Proudican Party candidate Bruce Bongardt.… Read more ...

Barr, Nader register in polls in several states

CQ Politics updates its state-by-state poll tracking in the presidential race, and Libertarian Bob Barr and independent Ralph Nader are registering in a few states:

  • In Colorado, a Rocky Mountain News/CBS 4 poll conducted August 11-13 (+-/ 4.38%) has Barr at three percent, Nader at two percent.
  • In Florida, an InsiderAdvantage poll conducted August 11 (+/- 5) has Barr at two percent.

    Libertarian Barr stuck in Ron Paul’s shadow?

    The Miami Herald has a brief item on Libertarian Bob Barr’s presidential campaign, saying Barr “is not your usual fringe candidate. For one thing, he’s got a record as an elected official. Barr, at the time a conservative Republican, represented a suburban Atlanta congressional district from 1994-2003. And he became a national figure as a House leader of the impeachment effort against President Clinton.… Read more ...

    Baldwin-Castle upgrade Web presence

    If you haven’t checked out Chuck Baldwin’s Web site in a while, you may have missed the debut of its new design. The layout is very slick and stands out from other campaign sites, including Baldwin’s original one, which have sought to emulate Ron Paul’s Terra Eclipse design.

    The masthead features pictures of Baldwin and his running mate Darrell Castle, with the tagline, “There is still hope for America – Let the truth be heard!!!” The main page features links to statements on immigration, the “new world order,” and “Baldwin honors our veterans.” The issues page has been reduced to a three-topic comparison between Baldwin and McCain-Obama, with the three subjects being the 2nd amendment, abortion, and veterans.… Read more ...

    Marking the halfway point between Bob Barr‘s nomination as the Libertarian Party‘s presidential candidate, LP founder David Nolan has written an assessment of the presidential campaign’s performance to date.     Barr/Saddleback lawsuit fails

    According to the LA TimesTop of the Ticket blog, the judge deciding on the Barr campaign’s last-minute lawsuit against Saddleback Church’s two-party forum was deliberating until at least 8 PM Friday night. According to an update recently posted, the judge has declined the campaign’s request for an injunction, and the event will proceed as planned.… Read more ...
