Libertarians are divided over the issue of abortion: Is abortion the initiation of force? Those who believe it is are typically “pro-life” and those who think it’s not are typically “pro-choice.” Non-libertarian politicians, though less philosophical, can normally be grouped into one of these two categories, as well. But not Democratic Senator Carl Levin, says Scotty Boman.
Less than a year ago one of my rivals, incumbent Democratic Senator Carl Levin, proved himself to be anti-choice and anti-life when he voted to allow federal funding for providers and advocates of FORCED abortions and sterilizations. Yes. You read that correctly. This was not about simply subsidizing abortions and sterilizations. This was about forcing them on people.

This amendment appears to have been a rider on HR 2764: Inclusion of Iraq and Afghanistan Military Operations Funding with the Consolidated Appropriations, so it is possible that Levin voted against it for reasons other than disagreement with its contents.

Beyond disagreement with its contents, what would the incentive be to vote against the ammendment itself?
If abstinence and contraception education are the best way to prevent unwanted pregnancy and stds, where do coercive abortion and involuntary sterilization rank?
