Latest Barr video: ‘The Time for Liberty’

July 24th, 2008 · 5 Comments

The following YouTube video from the Bob Barr campaign was released late last night and announced today in a campaign e-mail from Jeri Barr. The video juxtaposes Barr media appearances, quotes from the historical figures, Libertarian National Convention video and archival footage of various conservative and libertarian leaders against iconic images of a government overgrown and antagonistic towards its own citizens. In Mrs. Barr’s opinion, “if every American could watch this video, Bob would win their hearts, minds AND votes.”

It’s a decent video.. better than the first one Barr put out. A few too many Ronnie Reagan clips in there for my taste, but whatever.

It’s too long, however, and not nearly as exciting as some of those absurdly awesome grassroots Ron Paul MoneyBomb videos, which were the obvious inspriation…

Or the rather well done video for the recent rEVOLution march.

Ron Paul is inspiring. I really can’t put my finger on why, but hearing him speak was such a major inspiration. Bob Barr is a fine candidate and I support him, but he doesn’t inspire like Paul does.

That was pretty impressive. It has me ready to give Barr another chance. (Well, not another chance really, since I hadn’t made up my mind, but I was feeling pretty negative about him lately.)

I think — and this is not intended to be a dig against him — that Barr is one of those candidates who comes off better when he’s not doing the talking himself. Some candidates are just bland, no matter how enticing their messages.

I thought it was a pretty good video. Like svf, I felt it had too much Reagan. He had Kennedy and MLK too, so I guess he can be forgiven for using inspiring statements from people who weren’t at all libertarian.

That’s a pretty impressive video. I don’t think it’s too long either. There’s too much Reagan for my tastes too, but he is arguably the most iconic figure among U.S. presidents since Kennedy (unless you count Nixon, who isn’t the right kind of iconic). Come to think of it, Reagan and JFK are probably the only two presidents with overall positive images with most Americans in the past 50 years. (I’m guessing.) So they make sense, if you’re going to try and paint a picture of freedom rising that will resonate with most people in America.
