CNN poll: Nader 6%, Barr 3%

A CNN/Opinion Research poll released Wednesday has Ralph Nader polling six percent nationally in the presidential race, with Libertarian Bob Barr polling three percent. Barack Obama leads John McCain, 46% to 43%. NewsMax says “staffers working on behalf of Nader’s fifth run at the White House are convinced the perennial candidate could poll as high as 20 percent if allowed to take part in the debates.”

First I wasn’t talking about you G.E. attacking anyone. What I’ve seen you are very FAIR compared to most. I was referring to rdupuy’s post. The rest of this isn’t addressed to you either.

I have LITTLE time for MUSHROOMS! Anyone falling for B.O. or McSame are in the dark and eat s%(x fed to them by the corparate media everyday they listen! But most of them believe themselves to be wise, but inward they are but dummies, because they don’t know what the truth is and have never done the research to learn.

Ditto head? The Ditto man should have his fata%% tried for treason along with about 5,000 other traitors and their lackeys. The mushrooms (which include most ditto-heads) will sadly remain in the dark all their days.

I have no connection to the CP. I am led to support Dr. BaldWIN , because the Party which I am most aligned to, chose to nominate two libertarian leaning conservatives with major ties to the Republican Party and one to the C.I.A. Hence, I support Dr. BaldWIN as the only real change candidate.

The rest are but shades of the same problems that will never work for LIBERTY…

I cannot understand why people get so freaking passionate about bad mouthing fellow alternative candidates. Why do LPers get such a kick from bashing CPers and vice versa? The amount of political agreement between Barr and Baldwin far exceeds the agreement between Barr and Obama or Barr and McCain. The same is true of Baldwin. Perhaps I have missed it but I don’t see the Nader folks taking shots at McKinney and the reverse. With the possible exception of McKinney, I would vote for any of the alternative candidates before I would vote for McBama. Let’s focus on those who cause the problems rather than creating some of our own. It wastes time and energy!

  3. G.E. July 4, 2008

Where am I attacking Baldwin or the CP? Were you talking to me?

  4. Trent Hill July 4, 2008

“A FREEPing fool rebranded is still naught but a fool.”

Wow. You really are that stupid arent you? I didn’t think anyone were capable of being so ignorant of political theory. FREEPers are socialists, like you, not me.

“I’ve watched campaigns since 1988. I’ve been a Libertarian since that time. This is by far the best campaign, and the best candidate the LP has had. And we’ve had some good ones, but this guy, the best.”

1988 featured a more well-spoken congressman, who wasnt disgraced, hadn’t flip flopped (ever), and had integrity!

“The fact is, Barr polled 3% nationally, and your candidate polled nothing. Barr’s outreach, is the best, of any LP candidate since the beginning of the party, going on Fox News, ABC, CNN, and more.”

Barr polled 3% and my candidate WASNT polled, let’s get that straight. Secondly, Barr wont pull 3% in November,he’s obviously on the downslide, while Baldwin is rising.

“The CP is a shambles, I’ve read about the infighting, not from outsiders, but from your own leadership, and it reminds me of bad days in the LP…yes, back in 2000 we had some of those fights too.”

Idiot. No, ONE state is in a disagreement. The Secretary of State in California has already decided to certify Baldwin on the ballot–so we win.

“But, the point is, you are having them this year….yes california is well over half your party (its your big claim to voter registration), so trying to call it just one state, is well…. disengenuous, by far.”

California makes up alot of the REGISTRATIONS, but few of the VOTES–so yes, its just one state. One big state, but one. Are you familiar with what a state is?

I’ve little patience or forgiveness for repsewers of others’ mistruths and outright lies. They get to dodge the bullet about their being blatantly dishonest, but it still leaves valid questions about their being used as a thoughtless tool. I am not a fan of Barrack Obama, but am a believer in not lying. Given your stated association to The Constitution Party, and direct link to its webpage from your profile, would it be fair to assume that the party is afflicted with much of the same woes as all of contemporary conservatism? A FREEPing fool rebranded is still naught but a fool.

Obama had written in his first book, “Dreams From My Father” (1995), before entering politics, that he had used marijuana and cocaine (“maybe a little blow”). He said he had not tried heroin because he did not like the pusher who was trying to sell it to him.

In an interview here at a meeting of the American Society of Magazine Editors, Obama said he was not making light of the subject.

“It was reflective of the struggles and confusion of a teenage boy,” he said. “Teenage boys are frequently confused.”

From you copy-n-paste of an AOL comment thread (ROTLMAO), is it fair to make the assumption that you are a “ditto-head”?

  9. Jerry S. July 4, 2008

G.E., I wasn’t pro either way on these posting, I think I know how most of America thinks and they aren’t big Panther fans. Even most Blacks oppose them. I do like seeing the venom against B.O. widespread however.

I’m trying to tell everyone, this year offers all Third Parties an opportunity to make massive gains. The two “major” nominees are the WORST in our lifetimes. And I’ve been watching since ’68. And been alive since Eisenhower.

As for attacking Dr. BaldWIN and the CP, WHY? Friend your time would be MUCH better spent attacking the Ds and Rs. BaldWIN and McKinney aren’t even included in these polls.

  10. rdupuy July 4, 2008

    Trent,

If you were trying to impress me that you say very little that is accurate – job well done. Otherwise, nice try, but no cigar.

I’ve watched campaigns since 1988. I’ve been a Libertarian since that time. This is by far the best campaign, and the best candidate the LP has had. And we’ve had some good ones, but this guy, the best.

The fact that you vent against them, is your perogative, in fact, the front runners like Obama and McCain will have the same type of reactions. Some deserved, some not. People say such things about front runners.

The fact is, Barr polled 3% nationally, and your candidate polled nothing. Barr’s outreach, is the best, of any LP candidate since the beginning of the party, going on Fox News, ABC, CNN, and more.

The CP is a shambles, I’ve read about the infighting, not from outsiders, but from your own leadership, and it reminds me of bad days in the LP…yes, back in 2000 we had some of those fights too.

But, the point is, you are having them this year….yes california is well over half your party (its your big claim to voter registration), so trying to call it just one state, is well…. disengenuous, by far.

  11. Trent Hill July 4, 2008

    rdupuy,

Barr is a former Congressman who is basically disgraced. He’s sponsored DOMA even though he’s been married 3 times. He claims to be pro-life but paid for his girlfriend’s abortion. There are pictures of him licking whipped-cream off of a busty-waitresses bosom for god sakes! He’s been completely destroyed by these incidents, and now he has changed on every issue under the sun–that is called flip-flopping.

As for the CP,it isnt in shambles at all. The AIP-CA is the only state having trouble, and it all seems to be pretty ironed out.

As for Russ Verney–good luck with that. Between Shane Cory, Russ Verney, Richard Viguerie, and the Air Conditioning–I doubt if any of the fundraising is going towards voter outreach!

  12. rdupuy July 4, 2008

the constitution party is a shambles, with petty infighting, a loose organization, and a baptist preacher as the candidate. Congressman Barr, along with his campaign chief, Russ Varney, who helped Ross Perot get almost 20% of the vote, shouldn’t be compared at all to the CP.

certain activists keep trying to make comparisons to the LP, but where did Baldwin poll? oh yes, he didn’t.

  13. Trent Hill July 4, 2008

I keep hearing people, even Barr, suggest that Baldwin will be on MANY less ballots than Barr–this is false. Barr will be on aqnywhere from 46-49. Baldwin will be on anywhere from 41-44.

  14. G.E. July 4, 2008

Jerry S – The Black Panthers had Murray Rothbard’s support, so they’re all right by me. I wish Obama were more radical.

  15. Deran July 3, 2008

    “It really boggles my mind….”

    Indeed.

I agree with a great deal of what you say. I have periodically said I am not sure McKinney is actually going to go on to November. My doubts go back to Sept of ’07 when she said she would not seek the nomination of the GP.

The point is; that had Nader run a strong independent campaign like he is right now, in 1996, things would be a lot different right now. But, he didn’t, it’s unfortunate. I think McKinney sees the problems of the party she has found herself drawn to. Again, a mistake, had she run as a an independent peace and justice candidate this year (and had Nader not decided to get it right, this time, probably too late), McKinney would be in a stronger position.

I will probably end up voting Nader or Barr this year, I am not even sure McKinney will be on the ballot in WA.

  16. Jerry S. July 3, 2008

Nader, McKinney should run to defeat B.O. headsup! If you think B.O. has this thing wrapped up, you could be mistaken, see these AOL comments under his Teamsters article…

ill start with excerps from Obamas book:
    From Dreams of My Father:

    • “I ceased to advertise my mother’s race at the age of 12 or 13, when I began to suspect that by doing so I was ingratiating myself to whites.”
    • “I found a solace in nursing a pervasive sense of grievance and animosity against my mother’s race.”
    • “There was something about him that made me wary, a little too sure of himself, maybe. And white.”
    • “It remained necessary to prove which side you were on, to show your loyalty to the black masses, to strike out and name names.”
    • “I never emulate white men and brown men whose fates didn’t speak to my own. It was into my father’s image, the black man, son of Africa, that I’d packed all the attributes I sought in myself, the attributes of Martin and Malcolm, Dubois and Mandela.”
“I will stand with the Muslims should the political winds shift in an ugly direction.”

Yea Obama the guy who has three members of his team that he goes back to the seventies with on his team that were convicted members of the Black Panthers…remember that white hating group radical afroamericans that were bombing places back then? Yea hes been tied to them for years and their on his presidential team! If the words from his own preacher didnt convince you enough what a white hater he is,this ought to,and if you think its not true…do a history on him,you can get it right on the internet.
His first job as a lawyer,he wasnt even out of law school but his girlfriend, the one charged in the bombings and served twenty years for it,got him the job working for her father….now she is on his team…you Obama lovers should be looking into these things, dont take my word for it look it up yourself. He was even indicted in the Rezko incident, read the following articles, and find out for yourself. He is the only presidential candidate in history to have such a shady and…well…hidden background.
Also Barack Obama (D-IL)involved in a suspicious real estate deal with an indicted political fundraiser, Antoin Tony Rezko. Obama also linked to an alleged influence peddling scandal and was nabbed conducting campaign business in his Senate office, a violation of federal law.

IT IS VERY ENLIGHTENING TO READ ALL THE COMMENTS ABOUT BARACK HUSSEIN MUHAMMED OBAMA. THIS GUY IS A FRAUD,RACIST,ELITIST,OPPORTUNIST,ARROGANT,STUPID,INEXPERIENCED. EVERYONE IS ABSOLUTELY CORRECT. THIS MAN WILL DRIVE THIS COUNTRY TO THE DOGS. ECONOMICALLY,HE DOES NOT HAVE A PLAN,EXCEPT TO RAISE TAXES,HELP THE LAZY PEOPLE,AND THE MIDDLE CLASS WILL SUFFER,ESPECIALLY THE SMALL BUSINESSES.
I JUST READ THE AOL NEWS ABOUT HIS PROMISE TO THE TEAMSTER UNION,THAT HE WILL REMOVE THE DECREE FOR AN INDEPENDENT REVIEW BOARD TO OVERSEE THE CORRUPTION,FRAUDULENT,AND OTHER SERIOUS CRIMES WITHIN THE UNION. BARACK HUSSEIN MUHAMMED OBAMA IS CORRUPT.LOOK AT WHAT HE GOT FOR HIS MORTGAGE IN CHICAGO. THERE IS MORE AND MORE CORRUPT ELEMENTS HE IS ASSOCIATED WITH THAN MEETS THE EYE.
WE NEED TO LOOK OUT FOR THIS MAN TO BE ELECTED FOR PRESIDENT.HE IS DANGEROUS AND PRETTY SCARY.

Obam promised evangelicals that if they will vote for him he will make it legal to hire and fire based on religion.

Obma promises lots of things to lots of people.

He thinks he is safe making these promises because he doesn’t intend to have to carry out any of them.

If he makes it into office it will all be a moot point because America will not longer exist.

Anybody who thinks that is not in his plan is voting with blinders on.

  17. Mike Gillis July 3, 2008

It really boggles my mind to hear people think that McKinney, who has little to no support or money outside of the Green Party tent, will outpoll Nader anywhere.

I don’t even believe that 1% of voters are aware she is running, much less support her.

Nader, while I can’t see him — or any third party candidate – polls 2000-style numbers — I can see him at least topping 1% this year.

And that’s a feat I only see him or Barr being capable of.

McKinney has raised fewer than 100,000 dollars and can’t draw any crowds larger than 50 people. She seems to purposefully avoid mainstream media coverage and when she speaks at many events, chooses not to mention that she’s running for president.

Already Nader’s campaign reports that he’s pulled in about two million dollars and he’s on three ballot lines that he failed to get in 2004. I see him getting more votes this year based on that, and the fact that his campaign is far better organized and efficient than it was last time.

And the Dems don’t seem to be suing him, either.

The Nader and Barr campaigns will probably polls in the 1-2% range this year. That’s the ceiling I see for any third party candidate in the current environment.

Chuck Baldwin may pull in about 150-200,000 votes, but the most I see McKinney getting IF she finally starts campaigning for real, raising money and getting the attention of people outside of the Green Party — is about 200,000 to 300,00 votes. And that’s extremely optimistic with Nader in the race.

I don’t think it’s “ego” that made Nader run as an independent. I recommend you check out draftnader.org for all the ways that the Green primary process was rigged against him — many times by McKinney supporters — and give that theory some greater thought.

Had Nader not run, and McKinney alone was holding the banner for the anti-war Left, there would be NO visible progressive third party campaign this year.

“According to the polls, 4.6% “strongly believe” that 9/11 was orchestrated by the Bush administration. That should be the wedge issue that helps Baldwin 1st, then McKinney, then Nader, then Barr. 4.6% represents 15 times the vote total of Badnarik in 2004, and about 50 times that of the Greens and CP.

The secret key to getting third party votes in 2008 is 9/11.”

You could have a point, “IF” the truthers would help Dr. BaldWIN acquire ballot access in the 20 states he still needs. Otherwise he “AIN’T” gonna defeat people with higher ballot access. It just “AIN’T” mathematically possible…

Nader and McKinney both should defeat B.O. ,because both are MORE qualified than he is to be POTUS! Now it is reported B.O. is tied in with the TEAMSTERS, that’s SPOOKY Maulder!

  19. Deran July 3, 2008

“Nader went from 685k votes in 1996 to 2.9 million votes in 2000, to 465k in 2004. I’ll be surprised if he makes 500k this time, and unsurprised if he goes under 400k.”

Yes, well, if you look at just those raw numbers. But, the historical reality is that in ’96 Nader barely ran a campaign at all. He refused to do financial disclosures and never officially spent more than $5k, or what ever the FEC reporting trigger number was then.

In ’04 he made the mistake of halfheartedly seeking GP ballot lines to make it easier to get on. This led to a long waste of energy and fund raising potential.

And of course ’00 was Nader as the GP’s main man candidate in ’00, and, well.

What I am saying is, to compare ’96 to either ’00 or ’04 is, well, not very useful. And to compare any of those campaigns to ’08 is even less historically useful.

What I am saying is; had Nader run the sort of well organized, and increasingly well funded (he will be the only non-major party candidate to qualify for primary matching funds; of what? $900k?) independent campaign he is running this year in ’96, the political landscape right now, in the US, would be very different.

On the other hand: Nader should have done ’08 in ’96 and ’00, and he did not. I think that he has sort of “over-stepped” by running again, against Cynthia McKinney.

I believe McKinney could have gotten some serious traction, had Nader been able to reign in his ego, and try to correct his own past missteps by allying with McKinney.

And as for Trutherism. Nader is in no way to be counted as a Truther. McKinney may have some of that thinking (which I see as a negative), but not Nader.

Disclosure: I donated to Nader in the last three rounds (as close to the max as I could get in ’00), but I have only donated to Cynthia McKinney this round.

  20. Galileo Galilei July 3, 2008

  21. Thomas L. Knapp July 3, 2008

A depends on how close the election looks coming into November, but as of now, I’d say the descending order of “major” third party/independent candidates’ performance would be Barr/ McKinney, Nader and Baldwin.

If the election isn’t too tight and if McCain and Obama continue to piss off the conservatives and progressives respectively, then Barr or McKinney might push up into the 750k-800k vote range. If it tightens up much, 500-700k each.

Nader went from 685k votes in 1996 to 2.9 million votes in 2000, to 465k in 2004. I’ll be surprised if he makes 500k this time, and unsurprised if he goes under 400k.

The Constitution Party has yet to break 200k in five presidential campaigns. They may do it this year given the conservative discontent with McCain, but I wouldn’t bet on it being by much. In their wildest, wettest dreams perhaps 300k.

  22. Deran July 3, 2008

Indeed, I see on BAN that the GP in PA has abandoned their petition drive for ’08. There was that song, that Jim Morrison did, and Nico covered, something abt the end…

My main regret abt Nader is that he did not do this campaign in 1996 and 2000. Had he, I wonder if we would not have a new independent progressive party in this country right now, and one on a much stronger footing than anything on the Left today. I know: Coulda, woulda, shoulda.

  23. Nexus July 3, 2008

I doubt McKinney will have any impact at all.

  24. Galileo Galilei July 3, 2008

McKinney is going to have a very tough time prying votes from Obama, plus she has to fight Nader as well.

  25. Mike Gillis July 3, 2008

McKinney has been campaigning since October. She’s just not campaigning very hard.

  26. Deran July 3, 2008

And when, or if, Cynthia McKinney, starts campaigning, there will be another exit for all the shame-faced Obama believers.

  27. Galileo Galilei July 3, 2008

Chuck Baldwin will end up getting as many votes as Barr, despite no national media coverage.

Barr will not get religious conservative votes, they won’t vote Libertarian. Baldwin will get some of these votes, he is networking with churches on the Internet.

Barr will lose half the Ron Paul vote because half are 9/11 Truthers who may go with Baldwin. Baldwin was endorsed by Alex Jones.

Barr is not a strong candidate for economic conservatives, and has no record in this area.

  28. Sean Scallon July 3, 2008

The more you go to the center Obama, the more Nader rises.
