In an article from State & National Elections News, Bob Barr compares John McCain’s conception of the American presidency to 18th century monarchy.
“Along with President George W. Bush, Sen. McCain seems to believe that the president, like the British king of old, possesses unconstrained and unreviewable power,” says Barr. “This is a truly shocking claim: when the American colonists created a new nation, they were determined to limit both government and executive power… This is not the republic under law in which Americans thought they were living.”
Of the Constitution, Barr says it “must come before any political party.” Furthermore, it “establishes oversight and accountability for every executive power… The next president must reverse the aggrandizement of power to the executive branch and defend the privacy and liberties of Americans from every encroachment.”
These quotes were taken from Barr in regards to domestic spying, Barr’s opposition to which has been a central theme of his campaign thus far.

I agree with him on this.
