Black Agenda Report: McKinney will love you back

June 4th, 2008 · 2 Comments

In a piece at Black Agenda Report, Executive Editor Glen Ford writes about Barack Obama’s willingness to toss the Black Church under a bus in his efforts to secure the Whitehouse. He comments on the role Black Nationalism has played in Obama’s political life, and wonders if Obama never believed it, or has been blinded by ambition.

The final two paragraphs explain the fullness of Ford’s point.

In the end, Black people’s one-sided love affair with Barack Obama can never be consummated. He recoils at every stage, answering love with unconcealed revulsion. One day soon, we’ll take the hint.

Of course, the real deal is former Georgia congresswoman Cynthia McKinney, presidential candidate for the Green Party ticket. McKinney reports she’s leading in the Greens’ delegate count. Unlike Obama, whose politics is substantially to the Right of most Blacks, Cynthia McKinney loves you back.

Anyone else think asking for unwavering racial fealty from a biracial person is a bit much?

Expecting unwavering racial fealty from anyone is a bit much.

Race is a social construct, and a destructive one at that.
